Favorite Films, Eliadne's Ideas

Favorite Films:
1. Lion King
2.  The Shawshank Redemption
3. Sister Act 2

One of Eliade's ideas that relates to my life is the idea of "New Year." I relate to it, not in the sense of the cliche 'new years resolutions' but as every day goals I set for myself, for example, completing a school assignment or getting to work on time.

Video Analysis

The video represent the beginning of life and the ending. It demonstrates this through the leaf falling of the tree representing death, or the end of the season. Then taking the journey back to life as it goes down the stream of water, and seeing different kinds of animals through its way. The animals begin to represent life. The beginning of new life begins to emerge when the leaf gets out of water and begin to dance. Following that one single leaf are more dancing leafs. The dancing represents joy. When the leafs seek a empty tree they run to it, and look upon the horizon towards the sun that is beginning to rise, representing the beginning of a new day, life, and changing of the seasons.

Name Origin, Sacred Center

My name is combination of two names, Maria and Celia. The name Maria comes from Hebrew roots, and I found that it means 'bitter.' The name Celia comes from Latin roots and its meaning is  heaven. Maricela also has the variant meaning of Marcella of Mars, a mythological Roman God of feritility. According to my parents, they decided to name me Maricela because they just liked the name. I have an aunt that is named Maricela, maybe that inspired them to name me Maricela.

My sacred center is not one that is physical, but mentally. I enjoy art, and creating it. The peace and calm I get when letting my mind go free and playing with the colors at hand, makes my center unique to only me. Knowing that the painting does not have to be perfect is an amazing feeling, for it doesn't have to follow rules and regulations. The sun does not always have to be yellow, orange, red; the clouds do not always have to be white, or gray. Having that freedom to decide how the picture should look is my sacred center.

"This Tonado Loves You"

In the song “This Tornado Loves You,” Neko Case uses the symbols and archetypes of death, Love, and nature to express the theme of Destructive Love. According to Anthony Stevens in Ariadne’s Clue, He explains that, “Fear that an attachment bond may be under threat can result in anger and aggression, as well as anxiety, while low or attachment figure is associated with grief, despair, depression, and sometimes suicides” (48). Furthermore, human nature is compassionate; “to recover a loved one who has been carried there is a supreme act of sacrifice;” displaying the bond of human attachment (Stevens, 50).  Additionally, humans have become overly obsessed with love results in the destruction “of the self as an individual,” resulting in the confrontation that “it is the inevitable that people should wish [death]” (Stevens,168).

Ariadne's Clue Quotes

Interesting: "Every component of the human brain, like each gene responsible for its construction, is there for one reason: it enabled our ancestors to survive long enough in the ancestral environment to pass their genes on to the nest generation." (pg 28)

Insightful: "Our capacities to create words and symbols and our ability to communicate by means of them developed the rapid evolution of the human brain as a result of an increased selection pressures coming from a largely hostile environment--ice ages, the presence of determined and skilful predators, scarce food resources, droughts, floods, etc." (pg. 27)

Confusing: "Just as the rising sun banishes darkness from the world, so the mythic hero emerges from the stomach of the whale, the ego struggles free from the grip of the unconscious, the boy liberates himself from his emotional dependency on his mother" (pg37)

A Recent Dream

A recent dream I’ve had was about hair. Within the dream I saw several types of my own hair, like curly, some that I do not have in real life. I remember trying to figure out what kind of style to have; the decision was hard.  Even though it seemed it was hard to figure out the style of hair, I was not able to finish the dream, for I was woken up before it had ended.
